SELECTED LOTS
FROM THIS AUCTION

This is the electronic/internet version of our normal paper catalogue. Some changes have been effected so as to save file space and transfer/download time. Most illustrations and logos for example have been removed. Although it is not in the easiest form to read, hopefully it will still bring you the information you need.

The sale is arranged in the following order;
    Lots 1-159     Mixed Lots
    Lots 160-190 Cinderella Literature

Lots 439-528 United Kingdom
    Lots 191-438 Lots by country A-Z, excluding U.K.
If you are new to our auctions, please see our general auction information page.

The figure at the end of each description is our estimate, in pounds sterling. Bids are accepted above or below this figure, although bids below about 75% or 80% estimate only have a tiny chance of success. Estimates are in Pounds Sterling do not include the 10% buyer's premium.

After the main listings you will find various information and instructions. This is followed by a sample bid form, and a copy of the the notes that appear on the reverse of our bid forms.

This is a public auction, in which written/telephone/e-mail bids are also accepted. If you are bidding with us for the first time, please bid by two of these methods with the same bids (e.g. by post and by phone, or by telephone and by e-mail), or bid in good enough time for us to get back in touch with you with any queries.

NEW BIDDERS;
Please note that bidders who are not already known to us are required to bid in the first instance by two different methods. The options available are email, telephone, or post.
New customers attending one of our sales in person for the first time, and intending to bid, are invited to make themselves known before the sale starts. This saves the auctioneer from having to ask for a name during the sale.

Cinderellas, 3 October 2005                      Page 2                                      Estimate.

              David Jefferies was well know for many things, amongst which were his great knowledge of and enthusiasm for the two subjects we are offering in today’s auctions; Cinderellas and Scottish Postal History.
               In the line of Cinderellas, he seems to have collected everything that looked the slightest like a stamp, and he drew no boundaries. He was forever being approached by collectors and dealers asking for help in identifying odd labels, or looking for background information.

We are pleased to offer for sale here the material he disparagingly referred to as “Jefferies’ Junk” !

Condition throughout is generally good, though there are often some faults. We only mention condition in descriptions if it is notably good or bad. Almost all stamps are mounted with hinges. Sometimes “semi-postals” are included in country collections. Catalogue prices are from Barefoot, unless otherwise stated.

For the guidance of any bidders who are not regular customers, there are no reserves on any lots, but lots are not normally sold for less than about two-thirds of the estimates. In practice, lots tend to sell for above rather than below estimate, and sometimes well above. Unsolds (if any) are not available for purchase after the auction, but will be offered in a later sale.

In some places it has been difficult to decide into which catalogue some items should appear. For example see “Parcel Labels” in Scottish Postal History, which could also have found a place in Cinderella.

Cinderella” ?  Just as Cinders was left behind while everyone went to the ball, so did these other types of stamps, while everyone concentrated on simply the postal adhesives. (However, some people did eventually appreciate their beauty . . . )

THIS IS HOW YOU CAN BID;
In Person. This is a public auction, and bids are made in the traditional manners.
Bids by post. Please use the Bid Form supplied, and send first class.
Telephone bids will be accepted at any time before the sale (but the earlier the better). These bids should be confirmed in writing, even if the written confirmation will not reach us until after the auction. A mobile number (07974 962649) can be called on the evening of sale only.
Fax now discontinued.
E-mail bids should be sent to us at [email protected] at any time from the moment you receive this catalogue until 3pm on the auction day. Please do not e-mail bids to us after that time. Please use the format and wording used on the bid form that comes with your auction catalogue. (We have a back-up email address of [email protected] in case of problems.)

CREDIT CARDS

We are happy to accept MasterCard and Visa credit card payments, as well as payments by Switch and Delta. This facility can be used by room purchasers (who pay their accounts at the auction), by other local customers (who pay their bill in our shop), and by postal buyers.
In order to deal with postal clients, our bid forms have been designed to make space for credit card instructions. If you want your purchases charged in this way, please complete the appropriate section.
Do not complete these details unless you want to pay by credit card, and to have the lots posted.
We have negotiated good rates with our bank, and are able to absorb the bank charges for this service ourselves, and therefore there is no additional charge for the use of this facility, as long as postal bidders give us their details in advance of posting. Only for postal buyers where card details are given after posting, we will charge 1.9% extra (Visa/MasterCard) or 18p (Switch and Delta), plus cost of posting receipt slip.

VIEWING; please note that lots can normally be viewed in our shop during the one week prior to the auction. It is sometimes possible to view auction lots outside the normal times, but this must be by special arrangement.

Rates abroad are EEC countries £4, other European countries £7, Overseas £10.
Successful postal bidders should note that postage stamps are not an acceptable means of paying your account.
 Prices realised for this sale will be published with our next catalogue. If you are not normally on our mailing list, the List of Prices Realised can be had by simply sending us a stamped addressed envelope. Alternatively, you can be put on our auction mailing list (see above).

 Open Bids ("Buy Bids") are not normally accepted. If such bids are made, they will be taken to mean a bid of ten times the printed estimate.
Any invoices remaining unpaid fourteen days from the auction date (or after delivery to a postal buyer) will attract interest at the rate of 2% per month or part thereof.
