1 An original old
Stafford Smith Permanent Postage-Stamp
Album (published about the mid-
1880s), containing a wide-ranging and worthwhile world
collection. Most of the stamps
are contemporary with the album (i.e. 19th Century),
plus some a little later. Condition, as
is normal for collections from this period, is quite mixed; some
real horrors are included,
but much is fine, and some very fine. The collection is peppered
with individual stamps
which are catalogued at tens (or hundred) of pounds, and an
experienced philatelist (who
has properly ignored most of the forgeries) has recently
estimated the catalogue price of
only the sound stamps at around £35,000. The best page
must be
one of Canada, which has
the 1897 Jubilee set complete mounted mint (cat.£4,000.,
fresh
and attractive, some marks
on gum etc, and the 2c, 3c, and 5c are used). UK includes used
1840 1d (2) and 2d.
(c.1,900 Europe, c.500 Asia, c.450 Africa, c.1,200 Americas,
c.375 Oceania). Viewing by
appointment. þ [VIEW
