                  Collections and Mixed Lots.

1     Interesting old world collection in a well-filled Strand album collected between 1924 and

1939. The bulk in numbers is in general world material, but the charm of the collection

comes from the fact that the original collector was a well-travelled seafarer (eventually a

captain) who seems to have been in the habit of buying a selection of the mint stamps

currently on sale at many of the ports he visited (these also hold much of the value).

Notable countries and areas include UK (2 used penny blacks, mint 2/6 and 5/- seahorses),

Crete, Hong Kong, British POs in China (mint KG5 values to $2 and $5, cat. c.£700.),

China, Portuguese Colonies, British West Indies, and Newfoundland. Condition generally

fine (some poorer) and the mint normally quite solidly mounted. (c.4,500+) Also a few
