Although
the session is informal, there are always one or two regulars
on hand to make sure that things move along, and that everybody who
wants to join in gets that opportunity. Everybody can take part
just as much as they want to; just watching and listening, joining in
with others, or taking a shot to lead a song or do a solo turn.
Although we are
predominantly singers, there are usually a few guitars, and sometimes
other instruments as well (we've had everything from whistle to double
bass, and from moothie to bodhran). So - instrumental turns are also
welcome now and again.
Songs cross a wide spectrum, from traditional to contemporary,
Scottish, others from the British Isles, American, Australian, and even
some that aren't in English !
We see a wide range of abilities. And all are welcome. We're as happy
to hear somebody have their first attempt at singing outside the
bathroom as we are to hear an old stager.
We ask just a few things of our regulars and visitors;
{a} Please give singers good order. Whilst not expecting total silence,
we don't expect singers to have to strain to be heard over any
background conversation. And we thank everybody for respecting this so
well (usually . . . ).
{b} Please buy your drinks at the bar downstairs, and take your empty
glasses back down when finished.
{c} Most of our singers prefer to sing in a smoke-free room. So, if you
want a smoke, why not just slip downstairs for a few minutes ? Although
from 26 March 2006, this last request is no longer necessary :-)

Folk'n'Friends. Singing session
virtually every Tuesday evening at The Waverley Bar, Saint Mary's
Street,
Edinburgh. Singers, and non-singing visitors always welcome. Whether
traditional or self-written, in the folk music genre or whatever, we
simply like songs.
