Robert Murray Stamp Shop,
Edinburgh
Shop Opening Days.
Our retail shop, established in 1977, is heading towards being closed down. We've now (as a mix of retail sales, mail order, auction, and wholesale) sold off probably about 80% of our stock, but we do still have stock, and we'll be having a limited number of days when the shop will be open. Our next scheduled dates will be Saturday 19 July, Friday 25 July, and Saturday 2 August, 10am to 4pm each of these days.

After our last auctions were all dealt with, we've been visiting our remaining stock deciding what happens to it all. Much has gone, but there was some of material in our auctions that didn't sell, and we have more stock available to fill some of the spaces that have been emptied. Here's examples of what you could come in and see (or buy from us mail order).
Wherever space has been made in the shop, we have filled it. Come in for a browse !

Priced album pages; only certain boxes still available (Americas, Europe, Scandinavia x 3, Thematics, Maritime, WW1/WW2,  Omnibus x 2, Austria, Canada, Channel Is & I.o.Man x 3, Czechoslovakia, France x 2, Germany x 3, East Germany, Greece, Israel x 2, NZ x 2, Russia/USSR, Switzerland, United Nations, USA postmarks). You can buy individual pages at 60% off the marked price. Or you can buy complete boxfuls - on each plastic tub we have an approximate total of all the retail prices, and the price you would pay if you bought the complete box. (For example, there a box of France with a total retail price of c.£1,570 which can be bought outright at just £150, or one of New Zealand at £1,185 retail for £125.)
When odd pages are sold this will be noted, and the price for the box will reduce.
Priced Collections; All the cheap collections were sold, some others are still for sale. There's possibly a few new ones to add.
UK Phosphor sets; We have a good stock of these, and will soon produce a new price list for them, both for unmounted mint and very fine used. When available, that list will be linked from here. We often have some odd values as well.
Prinz System pages (and Hagner); Stocks are running low on many formats - some are completely sold out. However, we have been making up packs of second-hand pages - some as new or very close to it, others showing wear but cheaper.
Kiloware; Some limited stocks are now available of bags of stamps on paper (and some off-paper), at prices much below our old list prices. (This is in a new position in the shop.)
Jumble Table; None of that was in our auction, and anything from there is still 20% off the marked price, plus we've added new items.
Metal Signs; Last few of these remaining. They were £11.50 each (most shops charge much more !) but they are now either £3.75 or £7.75 or £9.75 each depending on the subject.
Unsold Auction Lots; Many of the unsold lots from our last (May) auctions are available in the shop. Some are already sold. In almost every case the price would be 10% above the lower estimate (but with no premium then added). These are not out on display - you'd have to look through our list to find things that might be of interest, then we'd look them out for you.
Coins; some selected countries are still available, other areas are completely sold.
Banknotes; Some of the notes did very well in the auctions (where our complete stock was offered singly or in groups), but there was quite a bit of duplication, so there were some unsold.
UK "Smilers" Sheets; Most of these are now priced at 10% below face value. (E.g. a standard sheet with twenty first class stamps, face value £34, would be £30.60)
UK Presentation Packs; We hope to produce a new price list of these, at attractive prices, including scarce packs such as Botanical, Forth Road Bridge, Geographical, Westminster Abbey, and so on. The early packs will have different prices according to grade. We have traded in these for decades, and have handled many thousands, so you'll not be sold a "pup" such as one with a replacement wrapper or which has been trimmed. Most of the modern decimal ones are priced just at their face value.
New Stockbooks; Only a reducing stock remains, still all with 25% off.
Stamp Mounts; Hawid and Showgard mounts (black or clear backgrounds) - our stock is now quite varied - some completely sold out, some running down, all at 25% off. We have an overstock on some odd sizes, will have a look at these, and will be offering bigger discounts on a few. Watch this space.
Covers; Some areas were cleared in our last auctions, while others remain on the shelves. Between 20% and 50% off.
UK Mint Sets; We still have most of these. Remember that most of the decimals are priced simply at the face value of the set plus ten pence.
Kestrel Cover Album Spare Pages; Stocks of these available, either the standard double-pocket, or with the one large pocket. Normal retail is £5.25 per packet of ten. We have them in packs of 20 at £7.95. Or £18.45 per packet of 50. Or £150.00 per full box of 580 pages.
Stenlake Publishing Books; Just a few remaining - Old Murrayfield and Corstorphine (£7.50), Old Colinton (£7.50), Old Gorgie (£7.99), Old Fauldhouse (faded cover, £4.00), Old Portobello (£6.99), Old Dalry (faded cover, £6), Wheels Around Edinburgh (faded cover, £4), Old Newington, Grange, Liberton & Gilmerton (£6.99).
Frames for Cigarette Cards and Post Office Stamp Cards; These are wooden frames with boards cut to take cards, and glass front and back. We have a remaining stock of these (at least some dozens of frames) which we have yet to check over, but we would be pleased to hear from anybody who wished to express an interest in buying the stock complete.
Hard Plastic Coin Cases; WE have a stock of some hundreds of these. Most are for the various commemorative crown. Again, we'd be happy to hear from anyone who might buy the complete stock.
